History and Uses
Darwin glass is an impactite, ancient crystal. Around 800 thousand years ago a large nickel iron meteorite that was once part of the core of an ancient planet slammed into the the isolated west coast of Tasmania south of Queenstown, forming a large impact crater. This impact generated a large amount of energy (enough to melt the crust, picture probably the equivalent of several atomic bombs), and created the Darwin Crater
